About Our Housing Services
New Mexico tops the list of the nation’s poorest states, and many people here are certain that home ownership is just a dream that will never come true. At Siete del Norte, we’re working to change that. Our community, statewide, and national partners work with us to help provide homeownership opportunities to low-income families in underserved areas.
Through a combination of tax credits, federal and municipal grants, and contributions from our supporters, we’re making safe and sustainable housing a reality for people who thought they’d never get there. Revitalized communities lead to both economic growth and an increased quality of life for families and individuals, so it’s a win-win for everyone involved.
Without a doubt, a home is the biggest purchase you’ll make in your lifetime. A buy that big comes with many steps, most of which you probably aren’t even aware of, let alone an expert in. Our mission to provide homeownership opportunities to low- and moderate-income households around New Mexico comes with a commitment to helping buyers and potential buyers understand all the steps, pitfalls, and dos and don’ts.
In addition to providing access to classes and information on purchasing a home, we haven’t forgotten our many friends in the community who are renters. If you’re having a hard time budgeting for rent, or are in the middle of a landlord-tenant conflict, our financial and legal counselors can help you find the best path forward.
Single and Multi-family Housing
As much as we advocate for homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families, we also know that purchasing a single-family home isn’t for everyone. For many individuals and families, apartment living is the best and most convenient choice, but renting comes with just as many questions and concerns as buying. At Siete del Norte, we manage 200 low-income tax credit properties in Taos, San Miguel and San Juan Counties in Northern New Mexico.
Tax-credit properties offer safe and secure apartment housing at lower-than-market rent by offering tax incentives to property owners. These properties provide sustainable, safe housing for families struggling financially, and because quality housing has a direct correlation with quality of life, these properties lead to community revitalization and economic opportunity, because when your housing isn’t a concern, there’s more room to seek innovation and experience. In addition to the properties, Siete del Norte offers counseling and consulting every step of the way—from application help to answering financial questions.
